Regarding COVID-19 mRNA vaccines and myocarditis, WHO committee says benefits outweigh risks

Following reports of cases of myocarditis and pericarditis after vaccination with Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) have said that the benefits of the vaccines continue to outweigh the risks in reducing hospital admissions and mortality related to the infection.

The COVID-19 subcommittee of the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety said that though serious illness can occur, cases are usually mild and respond well to conservative treatment. Data from the US Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System indicate that there have been 40.6 cases of myocarditis per million second doses among males, and 4.2 cases per million among females, as of June 11, 2021 in the 12-29 year age group after the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. For those aged above 30, the rates are 2.4 per million second doses and 1.0 per million second doses among males and females, respectively… (UN, July 9, 2021)
